Pet Sins in the Christian Community?

So, I have this favorite discussion forum that I hang out on, at times. It’s a great site, full of diverse personalities, all believers in Jesus Christ. However, there are different denominations there and that makes for some interesting conversations. The latest, hot topic is about homosexuality being Christianity’s “pet sin” of the day. If you’re interested in checking out the conversation, you can read about it here

Why is IT that Christians have “pet sins?” And what I mean by that is why do they always have this one sin that they go on and on about? They organize against it, post things about it on their social networking sites, and do their best to make sure everyone knows just how bad it is and that God hates it. You’d think they were worried that God couldn’t take care of the problem without their help.

And it seems that they think some sins are worse than others. But is that true?

This is what Jesus says in Revelation 21.8 (NASB):

"But for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death."

It certainly seems that way if you read the verse above. But “abominable” and “immoral” can encompass a whole lot of different sins, if you read through your bible entirely.

What do you think?

This is what I think. I think all sin is pretty bad. We are just a bunch of messed up human beings that could never, ever live up to God’s standards. And I also think that God knows that about us…seeing as He created us and all.

Thankfully, He made a way for us to be forgiven of our sins and to be cleansed from all unrighteousness. He sent His one and only Son to die for us. God loves us that much. What a wonderful gift He’s given us. Have you accepted that wonderful gift of His?

Do you believe?
